5 TN Govt Medical College Hospitals achieve milestone with NABH Accreditation
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu health department has announced that five Government Medical College Hospitals in the state have received the prestigious National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) certification from the Central government. This milestone marks the state’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare in the public sector. Health Minister Ma Subramanian, on Wednesday, honoured the principals of five government medical colleges — Omandurar in Chennai, and those attached to the government hospitals in Tiruvannamalai, Theni, Kanniyakumari, and Tiruvallur — in recognition of their institutions receiving official certification. Also Read: Patna's Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital Receives NABH Accreditation During the event, an ambulance worth ₹15 lakh, contributed by Indian Bank from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, was handed over to the Health Minister for use at Omandurar GH. In Tamil Nadu, there are 36 government medical college hospitals. This certification was achieved by the hospitals on 10 criteria, such as access, assessment, and continuity of care. Taking good care of patients, management of medication, improving the quality of medical treatment for the patient (patients’ rights and education), hospital infection control, improving patient safety and quality improvement, facilities management and safety, information management system, responsibilities of management and human resource management, reports the DT Next. The event was attended by Dr. Theranirajan, Director of Medical Education and Research, along with principals, directors, and superintendents from various government medical colleges. This development marks a major milestone in enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Health Minister Ma. Subramanian and Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
