Assam Gets NMC Nod for Pragjyotishpur Medical College with 50 MBBS Seats
In this regard, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a post on ‘X’ formerly Twitter. In the post, the CM wrote, “Assam's 14th Medical College is Born! The National Medical College is Born! The National Medical Council has approved Pragjyotishpur Medical College with 50 MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26 — a proud milestone in our mission to strengthen healthcare and medical education in the state". The establishment of Pragjyotishpur Medical College is a part of Assam's aggressive expansion in the medical sector. In the last five years, the state has inaugurated several new institutions to address the shortage of doctors and healthcare professionals. With more medical colleges, Assam will not only strengthen its local healthcare system but also position itself as an emerging hub for medical education in the Northeast. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the approval, calling it a step forward towards the government's vision of expanding medical education and healthcare facilities.
