Fire at Jhansi Medical College Gynaecology ward triggers panic

Jhansi: Panic swept through Jhansi Medical College early Friday morning after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward, forcing patients and their attendants to rush for safety as smoke filled the area. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. The incident, which was caused by a short circuit in an electric panel box, was quickly brought under control. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sachin Mahor said that at around 5 am, wires in an electrical panel caught fire, reports PTI. Alerted by the smoke, patients and their attendants immediately informed hospital staff and began evacuating the area. He further informed that all electric panel boxes across the medical college are being replaced as a precautionary measure, and the work is underway, reports TOI. District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Kumar told reporters that the fire broke out around 10.45 pm in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, possibly due to an electrical short circuit.
