Chennai: Another tragic loss has struck the medical community as an associate professor from the cardiology department at Manakula Vinayaga Medical College, who had dedicated his career to treating cardiac patients, passed away following a massive cardiac arrest. The deceased, Dr Devan, was only 42 years old when he succumbed to the very condition he specialised in and had saved countless lives during his short medical career. He was also known for spreading awareness about lifestyle diseases and guiding people to stay healthy. He was admitted to JIPMER and sadly passed away on August 31. His sudden demise has deeply shocked and saddened colleagues, friends, family, and the public. He was regarded as a brilliant doctor whose promising life was cut tragically short. I am deeply indebted to him. I was very aggressive then, and he handled me with patience. When government insurance was delayed, he stood up against the hospital and still carried out the procedure. RIP Devan, sir." His death has raised concerns about how a cardiologist, who devoted his life to treating heart conditions, could fall victim to the same ailment. It is not just about him but also about other doctors who have passed away in the past week. After the news of his death went viral on social media, netizens began speculating about the cause of his sudden cardiac arrest. While some attributed it to the aftereffects of the COVID-19 vaccine, others pointed to excessive workload, sleepless nights, and the immense mental and physical strain faced by doctors as possible reasons. Medical Dialogues recently reported on the tragic demise of Dr Gaurav Mittal, a 39-year-old critical care specialist. Previously, Dr. Prakash Gupta, an anaesthesia specialist at Goyal Hospitals in Jodhpur, passed away at the age of 40 after suffering a cardiac arrest in his sleep. Before him, a consultant cardiac surgeon at Saveetha Medical College passed away at the age of 39 after suffering a massive cardiac arrest while on hospital rounds.
