Goa doctor arrested for alleged sexual assault on ICU patient
Panaji: The Goa police arrested a 28-year-old doctor for allegedly inappropriately touching a Spanish woman inside the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital, an official said on Friday. According to a police spokesman, the doctor, who was on ICU duty, was arrested on Thursday after the sister of the Spanish patient filed a complaint. As per the complaint, the alleged incident took place on August 31, when the patient was admitted to the ICU of the private medical facility in Old Goa, news agency PTI reported. North Goa SP Rahul Gupta said that the doctor left Goa after the offence. “A team was formed, and he was tracked in Solapur and was arrested in the alleged rape case. We have registered an FIR against him under various sections of BNS, including rape,” he said. Also Read:Video of Quack allegedly touching minor girl inappropriately goes viral As per a TOI news report, the survivor was admitted to the hospital on Aug 29, and while undergoing treatment in the ICU ward, the accused doctor lifted her hospital gown and touched her inappropriately. The complaint states that the doctor touched her “private area” under the pretext of feeling sensation for conducting a neurological sensitivity examination — while she was immobile and in a vulnerable condition. A doctor allegedly inappropriately touched her at several places, police said, citing the complaint. Healthway Hospitals, in a statement, said, “A woman patient admitted to Healthway Hospitals, Old Goa, complained of sexual assault by the doctor while undergoing treatment”. Upon receiving the complaint of sexual assault from the survivor, “the doctor has been suspended from active duties pending further police inquiry”, the hospital said. “The doctor was arrested, and a case has been registered against him under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections concerning outraging modesty of a woman. Further investigation is going on,” the police said, reports PTI.
