Major Gen Atul Seth appointed Dean and Deputy Commandant of AFMC Pune
Pune: Renowned Gynaecologist, Major General Atul Seth, VSM, has taken charge of the prestigious position of Dean and Deputy Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. He is a distinguished Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in minimal access surgery and Urogynaecology. With an illustrious career in the Armed Forces Medical Services spanning over three decades, encompassing clinical practice, medical research, and healthcare administration, he brings to the institution a wealth of experience and a distinguished legacy of professional excellence. An alumnus of AFMC, Major General Seth was commissioned into the Indian Armed Forces in 1992. He holds an MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from his alma mater. He has served in various key medical establishments across the Indian Army, and has held prestigious appointments including Professor and Unit Head (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) at AFMC, and Head of Department & Consultant (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi. He has authored several research papers in national and international journals and is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of Obstetric and Gynaecological Practices (POGS). He also reviews articles for leading peer-reviewed medical journals. He has served as Organising Chairperson and Secretary of national conferences and is a postgraduate examiner for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and health universities in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal. In 2022, Major General Seth received the Vishisht Seva Medal. Previously, he was Commandant of the Military Hospital, Gwalior. AFMC, founded in 1948 and affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, has produced over 6,000 doctors and continues to play a pivotal role in military medical education.
