Karnataka: In a major development, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently increased the number of MBBS seats at BLDE Society's BM Patil Medical College in Vijayapura, Karnataka by 50. With this, from the current academic year, i.e., 2025, a total of 250 students will be admitted to MBBS courses at the college. The college had applied for additional seats in January this year. Before this decision, the hospital and college were inspected by NMC officials in June 2025. During the visit, the officials inspected various physical infrastructure facilities, including building and equipment, and human resources like qualified specialists, nursing staff, patient registration and hostel facilities for students and others. After the inspection, the team submitted a report to the NMC. Based on the report, the NMC has sanctioned 50 additional MBBS seats in BM Patil Medical College. This additional allocation will help in making medical education accessible to more students of North Karnataka and providing quality healthcare facilities to the poor, a release said.
