UP MBBS Admissions: HC stays fresh counselling, directs SC student adjustment in vacant seats
Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has recently directed the Uttar Pradesh government to adjust Scheduled Caste MBBS students, who were admitted under an excess 70 percent quota in four medical colleges, against vacant seats in other institutions. The bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Manjive Shukla also stayed the single bench’s earlier order for fresh counselling and asked the state to file an affidavit within a week, undertaking to follow the statutory 21% SC quota from the next academic session. The court noted that 82 SC seats were lying vacant in other colleges, where the affected students could be shifted to avoid disruption in admissions. Vacant seats in the four colleges-Ambedkar Nagar, Kannauj, Jalaun, and Saharanpur, will now be offered to OBC and unreserved candidates in the next counselling round. The matter will be heard again in October.
