Jalaun: A shocking video has gone viral on social media, allegedly showing a female doctor treating a patient in complete darkness with just a mobile phone torchlight at a district government hospital in Jalaun due to a power outage, raising serious concerns about patient safety and the grim condition of state hospitals. In the 31-second clip, shared by a user on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), a patient can be seen sitting on a bed with his bare arm exposed while the female doctor administers an injection. Beside them, a young man is holding up a mobile phone torchlight to assist her. Many also questioned the functioning of the health department, pointing out that such negligence in a major district hospital could endanger patients’ lives. While the state government has not issued a statement yet, the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital said that although the hospital has a generator, it was not used at the time due to a wire fault in the room’s power line. He added that continuous efforts are being made to upgrade facilities, and the technical team has been instructed to ensure such incidents are not repeated. However, patients and their families claimed there is no proper electricity backup in the hospital. They alleged that the emergency ward remained without power for nearly three hours, causing severe inconvenience, as reported by Lokmat News. The video was shared online with the caption: “A patient being treated under torchlight at district hospital in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.” Reacting to it, several users criticised the government. One wrote: “UP model – criticism not accepted. CM @myogiadityanath ji said in April 2022 that ‘quality health structure was a dream in the state before 2017.’ Now it’s a dream come true—surgery under mobile torchlight.” Another commented, “And these guys call South India underdeveloped, while their state doesn’t even provide power backup.” A third user mocked the state’s electricity claims. “Not possible! Yogiji told us UP gets 24-hour nonstop power supply.”
