Significantly high levels of flu seen in Australia this year should be heeded in how Ireland’s healthcare system plans for this winter, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has said. More than 307,000 lab-confirmed cases of influenza were recorded in Australia in the year up to August 25. By the end of this year the country is likely to see incidence of the virus on a par with or above the 365,000 cases reported across the whole of 2024.
